Abu Dhabi, get ready to flock to Bonbird Chicken (@bonbird.mena), which has just opened its very first outlet in Abu Dhabi right next to its parent brand, Pickl, in the Garden Plaza at Al Raha Gardens! As a fan of good fried chicken, we were excited to check out their offerings, and Bonbird certainly delivers on flavor.
The Ambiance
As Bonbird shares its location with its parent brand, Pickl, the ambiance is almost he same minimalistic industrial look with steel tables and chairs, what is unique is a little board on one side where you can write a not and tie it to a hook and leave it there as a memory of your visit.
The Menu
The menu at Bonbird is wonderfully diverse, offering a tempting selection of burgers, wraps, and rice bowls, alongside refreshing salads and more. The chick is organic corn fed with no additives ensuring a clean and honest taste.
The Food
We decided to dive into their burger selection opting for the Korean Chicken burger and their signature Good Good burger. We also had to try the bone in fried chicken which we had done in their signature Chicken Salt flavor, it was dry on the outside and once you bite in there is and explosion of flavours and the meat itself is moist and tender, amazing.
What truly sets Bonbird apart is the fantastic level of customization. Every burger and combo can be tailored to your exact preferences. You get to choose the flavor and heat level for your chicken, which is a game-changer for spice lovers (or not!). Plus, you can customize your fries and pick from an impressive array of eight different sauces. This bespoke approach really enhances the dining experience.
And the burgers? Absolutely amazing! The chicken was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and juicy within, and the flavors of both the Korean and Good Good burgers were distinct and delicious. They were well-constructed and truly satisfying.
Beyond the main attractions, Bon Bird also offers a nice selection of sides. We tried their baked beans and their chili pickles. The baked beans were good, offering a comforting and flavorful accompaniment. However, the chili pickles were a bit of a letdown; despite being labeled “chili,” they were surprisingly plain with no discernible chili kick, which was a miss.
Adding to the mixed bag, a slight wing-clipping moment came with the fries. While the burgers soared, the fries were unfortunately soggy and a bit stale, which did let down the overall experience.
We also noticed the service was a bit slow, but this might be due to their commendable “cook to order” promise of freshness. It’s a trade-off many are willing to make for quality, though a little patience is required.
The Verdict
Despite the minor setbacks with the pickles, fries, and slower service, Bonbird Chicken has made a very strong first impression in Abu Dhabi. Their customizable, flavorful burgers are a definite highlight and show immense promise.
With a little fine-tuning on the side dishes to ensure consistency in flavor (especially for those “chili” pickles!) and crispier fries, Bon Bird is poised to become a serious contender in Abu Dhabi’s casual dining scene.
We’re already looking forward to our next visit to explore more of their menu and hopefully enjoy perfectly crisp fries and truly spicy pickles!
