Rasaoi Ghar is a Dubai institution serving delectable pure veg Gujarati cuisine in an all you can eat format on a traditional silver platter know as a Thaali.
The Venue
A grand and royal welcome awaits you at Rasoi Ghar, in truly Maharaja style! They wash your hands and freshen you up from the scorching heat of Dubai with a sanitized refreshing cold towel and cool down with a chilled, light & refreshing welcome drink.
Seating options range form classic floor seating on fluffy pillows around a low table to traditional table seating with views of the glassed kitchen.
The Menu
The cuisine is traditional Gujarati vegetarian made with the finest spices with minimum oil or additions, rich in flavor.
They just have the set menu with all the classic and seasonal special, the presentation is stunning with the aim to serve home style food with hospitality to match.
The Starters
We were greeted with a serving of cool Nimbu Pudina Sherbat and an assortment of papads with various dips and pickles.
The starters were served on a stylish platter in neat little bowls, the traditional Dhokla with Aloo Bhonda and the special which was Kashmiri Dahi Wada, each one a masterpiece.
The Mains
The meal comes with four main dishes, today was Sahi Paneer, Bhendi Gol Masala, Aloo Kanda and the classic Pind Chole.
Then you get three styles of traditional Gujarati dall along with a choice of breads ranging from Phulka, Poori and a very tasty Cabbage Thepla.
They serve the curries in tasting portions as not to waste and the attentive waiters are always around to top up any that are running out on your plate.
Next follows the rice, you can try the veg Birgani, the tempered Curd Rice, the Khichdi or and the plain steamed rice as well and all this is in unlimited quantity.
The Dessert
The dessert service is equally elaborate. Once they come wash your hands in traditional style the desserts arrive, they had a fruit custard, a classic Jalebi and an exotic Akhrot Halwa which was fantastic.
The Verdict
Rasaoi Ghar prides itself on its delicious home style cuisine with fresh ingredients cooked clean with service to match and they never disappoint.
The staff make you feel like you are in their home and insist on serving you even if you say you’ve had enough and sometimes get upset if you don’t take more, just like at home.
Superb ambiance, great food, excellent service and all at a fantastic price make this one of our favorites. Location is good with ample parking as well which in Karama is a blessing.
Rumored to be opening in Abu Dhabi soon which will be so much more convenient in todays times.
