Etihad Rail – Stage 2 of National Railway Network on Track

Connecting Dubai to Fujairah Port via 15 tunnels and 35 bridges through the Hajar Mountains.

Work is progressing on the Stage 2 of the Etihad Rail National Railway Network that will connect the Fujairah Port to the border of Dubai & Sharjah via a 145 KM stretch of dual railway tracks crossing the Hajar Mountains via a network of 15 tunnels and 35 bridges.

Built to international standards, the railway will link the principal centers of trade, industry, manufacturing, production, logistics, population and all the major import and export points of the United Arab Emirates as well as form an integral part of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) railway network.

Footage posted to social media by Etihad Rail shows construction well under way on the 145-kilometer link between Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah port.

The work shows crews carving a path through the mighty Hajar Mountains before laying down the tracks.

The stage one that links the gas fields at Shah and Habshan to the port of Ruwais is already in operation.

Stage One utilizes seven state-of-the-art locomotives from U.S.-based Electro-Motive Diesel, operating with up to 110 wagons per run.

Stage Two will extend across the United Arab Emirates from the border with Saudi Arabia at Ghuweifat, connecting the Emirates via Abu Dhabi, KIZAD, Khalifa Port, Jebel Ali Port, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras al-Khaimah and thence to Fujairah on the UAE’s east coast.

The Etihad Rail mandate extends to passenger train service as well so there will be passenger service as well at some point.
