The classic cuisine of Lahore can be had right here in Abu Dhabi.
Connoisseurs of authentic Pakistani food have long since had to head to Dubai when the cravings for an authentic Kadai or Kebab takes hold but not anymore, Taste of Lahore, right here in Abu Dhabi offers the perfect place to indulge and satisfy one’s cravings.
Lahore is known as the food capital of Pakistan, it’s a melting pot of all the regions cuisines and also has its own authentic cuisine that is steeped in its history which is encapsulated perfectly at Taste of Lahore.
The Venue
Taste of Lahore, located in the Musaffah Shabiya ME 11 district is a neat and clean place with classic décor reminiscent of something you would find after entering the walled city via Roshnai Gate.
Run by a husband and wife team who are passionate about their culture and food it’s a must try place for anyone who loves the cuisine of Lahore.
The menu is very interestingly themed featuring the cuisine found around the various gates of the walled city of Lahore and each dish has its origins in its name. They also offer a full Chinese menu which will be our next review.
The Order
In order to adhere to the recommended public safety procedures, we chose to do a takeaway and here is what we tried, they offer dine in facilities and when the weather and circumstances permit there is a lovely outdoor seating area to enjoy as well.
Jail Road Seekh Kebab – Classic mutton seekh kebab, was perfectly spiced with a tender texture accompanied by a tangy chutney, onions and a squeeze of lemon, the perfect start to the meal.
Butt Lahori Kadai – Bone in chicken sauteed in a traditional Pakistani wok with onions, tomatoes and spices in a thick gravy. The explosion of spices was superb but we felt it needed more of the masala as we were left licking our fingers.
Androon Shehr Nihari – The signature version of Lahori Nihari, the beef was absolutely perfect, great blend of spices and the gravy was fragment, thick and perfect for dipping the fresh naans.
Daal Makhani – Another classic, black lentil in a butter and cream gravy with a rich satisfying taste.
Bread Basket – We got to try all the special naans, the Kalonji and the Garlic naan were the highlights, fresh, soft and sharp flavors, the aroma of fresh naan was delectable. The best naan in Abu Dhabi.
Firni – We ended this amazing meal with their classic Firni, it was perfect with hints of almond and cardamom enhancing the delicate taste, not cloyingly sweet but just perfect.
The Verdict
So that’s it for those tedious trips to Dubai we have found the perfect place to indulge our craving for authentic Pakistani food right here in town. Great food, lovely ambiance, cheerful staff and well-priced.
They have a tasting menu option for those who wish to try all their specialties and also offer classic breakfast items and have a catering option for all your events as well.
