Shang Palace Unveils Sunday Szechuan Dynasty Brunch

Shangri-La Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi launches new Szechuan brunch at Shang Palace celebrating the very best of the region’s cuisine

Chef Qiguo Su of Shang Palace welcomes diners to Shangri-La’s signature Chinese restaurant on Sundays as they savour a culinary and cultural journey through Szechuan, tantalising their tastebuds with a selection of signature dishes that pay homage to his roots. Chef Su, a Szechuan native understands the region’s proud gastronomic history, being the birthplace of many globally recognised dishes from the orient with its bold and spicy flavours.

Guests can delight in a foundation of flavours that are built up through the slow but smouldering burn of dried chillies, aromatic Szechuan peppercorns and garlic, all finely balanced with splashes of black vinegar and Doubanjiang, a fermented chilli bean paste that holds deep flavour.

Centred around a sharing experience, this all-you-can-eat brunch is best enjoyed by those looking for a sociable Sunday afternoon in the company of friends or family. Guests will be spoilt for choice as they are served a range of steamed, pan-fried, and deep-fried delicacies, most of which have a hot and spicy Szechuan twist.

Diners are greeted with a traditional ambience while being treated to a menu that begins with a choice of soup, most notably a Hot & Sour Chicken Soup in keeping with the region’s bold culinary style.  A selection of sharing appetisers swiftly follows, including dim sum favourites such as Homemade Beef Dumplings, Shrimp & Chicken Siu Mai and River Shrimp Dumpling.

Authentic Szechuan dishes then take centre stage as Chef Su showcases a punchy line-up of mains with highlights that consist of Traditional Szechuan Poached Chicken, Crispy Szechuan Prawns and an Egg-fried Rice, designed to balance out the region’s other fiery delicacies.

As the meal draws to a close, guests will experience a carefully selected collection of deserts.  A Mixed Fruit and Jelly Coconut Soup, kin to Shang Palace’s famed Chilled Mango Soup, is surely ‘a must try’ whilst the more traditional foodie may opt for a Baked Egg Tart with Coconut Sauce.

The Szechuan Dynasty Brunch is available every Sunday at Shang Palace from 12 to 3 p.m.
