This beautiful area has been completely revamped with a host of exciting new features.
The Al Gurm Corniche overlooking the Mangrove National Park has always been a popular place for families to visit and spend a lazy weekend afternoon.
In the old days the area was dotted with cabanas set in a lush garden which was truncated to make way for additional lanes to the ever busy Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street.
Often referred to as the mangrove waterfront, the area, which borders one side of Sheikh Zayed Street, has been under development for two years. Now accessible to everyone, it has spaces dedicated to rest, exercise and leisure, announced the Directorate of Municipalities and Transport (DMT).
Three exercise platforms, facilities for kayak tours and a heritage area that tells the history of Abu Dhabi are also part of the upgrade.
Several of the old canopies that were landmarks of this area have bene preserved and the area connects with the recently rejuvenated Dolphin Park completing the renovation of the entire area.
Among its features is a story-themed area which tells the story of modern Abu Dhabi. Other edutainment features include a telescope and reading nooks.
There are exercise and yoga platforms for visitors, as well as 3.5 kilometers of walking and biking trails. Visitors can also go kayaking.
Al Gurm Corniche joins a growing list of new and revived public spaces for families and tourists; others include the Dolphin Park and Al Fay Park on Reem Island.
Along with this, the DMT has also been revamping its family parks and destinations in recent years so families have an array of options for enjoying the outdoors.
Dolphin Park New Look
Earlier this month the overhaul of the Dolphin Park, one of the oldest parks in Abu Dhabi was finally completed, this includes includes renovated playgrounds, rejuvenated fountains, and refreshed greenery.
The park, distinguished by its dolphin fountains, was built about 30 years ago, and overlooks the city’s Mangrove National Park.
It is popular with residents as facilities include 10 barbecue areas, playgrounds and football and basketball courts along with a smattering of food trucks.
