There is a new cultural attraction pays pay tribute to and celebrate UAE artisans.
His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Member of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Office, has opened the House of Artisans at Al Hosn, featuring a new permanent exhibition to pay tribute to and celebrate UAE artisans.
The launch of the House of Artisans and its initiatives aims to encourage and support UAE artisans, promote their crafts, safeguard Abu Dhabi’s intangible heritage and preserve traditional crafts and practices as an intrinsic part of the UAE’s cultural identity.
His Highness was also introduced to Abu Dhabi Crafts online platform, and Abu Dhabi Register of Artisans.
House of Artisans is part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi’s strategy to showcase the varied history and heritage of Abu Dhabi in innovative and inspiring ways.
Visitors will learn about the crafts, including the materials, skills and techniques required to produce them, and view contemporary pieces by emerging and established Emirati artists and designers who have been inspired by the UAE handicrafts.
House of Artisans includes workshop spaces and will run public programmes, such as workshops, courses and events, to further raise awareness of the artistic and social values that have shaped Emirati identity.
