Explore the beaches of Mirfa in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi.
There are so many interesting things to do and places to visit around Abu Dhabi that not may know about so over this long weekend The Experience Team went on an afternoon trip to the lovely beaches of Mirfa in the Wester Region of Abu Dhabi
One of the shores of the Arabian Gulf just 120 KM west of Abu Dhabi on the E11 heading towards Ruwais lies the quaint city of Al Marfa also known as Mirfa once home to the pearl divers and fishermen of old. Fishing is still done here to this day.
Home to the annual Al Gharbia Watersports Festival Mirfa has an excellent and well-developed beach with changing rooms, showers and cabanas and is currently open to the public with a thermal scan mandatory at the entrance.
We reached around 4.30 PM in the evening and found it completely deserted, the white sand and the gentle waves were calling us to come experience them and we just couldn’t resist despite the heat.
It was a beautiful day a bit hot but a gentle breeze was blowing and it made it so much more enjoyable as we settled down to enjoy the water and the sunset.
The beach is huge and with dedicated changing rooms for ladies and gents and outdoor showers, benches and cabanas it’s a perfect place to come spend a lazy afternoon with friends and family. You won’t be allowed to do a BBQ so bring your own picnic hampers.
The drive from Abu Dhabi take about two hours, fuel up in Musaffah as you will only find one ADNOC before the Mirfa exit almost 100 KM from Abu Dhabi.
It’s a very scenic drive with views of the salt flats and some fossil rocks and if you get lucky you will see the Etihad Rail Train running along the highway, this is the only actual train service in the UAE albeit for freight but it’s a sight to see.
Right next to the Mirfa Beach is the Mirfa Beach Hotel that one can stop at and have some refreshments and indulge in some watersports activities as well or stay overnight in their rooms and make it a mini staycation.

Even today Mirfa has managed to keep the soul of a sleepy fishing village, apart form the hotel it is home to a huge gas an electric plant, water desalination and storage facility and some shipping maintenance works as well.
