Mamak – Yas Island Review

Turns out the best Malaysian Food in Abu Dhabi is at this small little place on Yas Island.

Who would have thought that in a corner of a little food court inside an ADNOC petrol station on Yas Island would be a place serving the best Malaysian food in all of the Abu Dhabi.

Well, that is Mamak for you in a nutshell, a small little place that’s been the the go to for Malaysian families who love the food they grew up with.

If you see a restaurant full of people form the region the food comes from then you know they have it down right and Mamak always has Malaysian families coming all the way out for their food.

They have all day breakfast, lunch and dinner going on at all times, you can come have a traditional Roti Canai and pair it with a fish curry or their spicy beef early in the morning or have rice and fish, its all available.

The best part of Mamak is the friendly staff and their willingness to work with any custom requests you might have.

The Order

We were there early morning so went with some of the breakfast items, their Ginger tea is a must while you wait for your order.

We tried the Roti Telur, a delicate roti stuffed with egg, soft and flaky left us wondering how they managed to keep the egg inside.

The Murtabak Daging was a delight, a thick paratha stuffed with beef, egg, onions and spices along with the spicy Sambal they are known for.

They packed the stuff and we were given fish curry and dal as added extras and a big bowl of Sambal which was spicy and delicious.

The Verdict

A real hidden gem of Abu Dhabi serving delectable food at a great price making it all the more attractive and if you enjoy a good drive then there is no place like Mamak to try on a weekend.

Mamak is also participating in the Hidden Gems series of the ongoing Abu Dhabi Culinary Season and by dining here you can enter the treasure hunt which is part of this series.
