A Quintessential Sunday Feast with a View: Roots Bar & Kitchen’s Roast Lunch

Stepping into Roots Bar & Kitchen on a Sunday afternoon feels like finding a little slice of British comfort, perfectly blended with the serene luxury of Abu Dhabi’s Yas Acres Golf and Country Club.

Bathed in natural light, the venue is a vision of crisp whites offset with swaths of deep red and soft natural tones with  an eye-catching central bar that exudes a welcoming warmth. Large windows frame panoramic views of the lush green golf course and a tranquil lake, creating a relaxed and inviting atmosphere that instantly melts away the stresses of the week.

The ambiance for the Sunday Roast is precisely what you’d hope for: lively yet laid-back. It hums with the gentle chatter of families, couples, and friends unwinding, all settling in for their weekly ritual. The team at Roots are remarkably personable and attentive, striking that perfect balance of being present without being intrusive, clearly passionate about ensuring every guest has a delightful experience.

Now, let’s talk about the main event: the roast itself. Roots takes this British classic and elevates it with both presentation and flavour. You’re offered a choice of succulent beef, tender chicken, flavourful lamb and a satisfying vegetarian option, each served with all the traditional trimmings you crave.

Think golden, crispy roast potatoes, perfectly cooked seasonal vegetables (featuring buttery sprouts and sweet carrots), and those essential, towering homemade Yorkshire puddings that are wonderfully fluffy on the inside and crisp on the edges. The gravy is a standout – rich, dark, and utterly addictive, tying all the elements together beautifully.

For those looking to truly indulge, the Ultimate Sharing Roast is a spectacular affair. Designed for three people but often conquered by two ambitious diners, it arrives on an impressive multi-tiered stand, resembling a savoury high tea.

This grand presentation showcases generous portions of glistening beef, juicy lamb cutlets, and plump Yorkshire puddings, with chicken and a vegetarian option making an appearance on the middle & top tiers. It’s a feast for the eyes as much as it is for the palate.

We tried the Ultimate Sharing Roast accompanied by their classic dry mojitos which were the perfect blend of sweet and tart acting as a palate cleanser, so to speak, between binges of the different meats, the highlight was the soft and succulent baby back ribs which were almost like a jelly, amazing.

The trimmings included three sauces, a Beef Ju which was divine, the lamb and chicken sauce were spot on as well and the mash potatoes were simply divine rounding off the flavors of each of the meats.

What truly enhances the experience are the thoughtful touches and flexible options. You can opt for a single roast plate, or upgrade to include a selected house beverage. For groups, the sharing roast comes with a bottle of wine, making it an excellent value proposition for a leisurely afternoon. And for those who enjoy lingering, the all-day Happy Hour on Sundays is a delightful bonus, encouraging you to settle in and savour the moment.

Towards the end of the meal the Chef came and enquired what we would like for dessert, seeing our uncertainty he offered to put together a surprise dessert which turned out to be a slice of cheesecake with a slightly tart mango ice cream on top with a sprig of mint and drizzle of a sweet betty sauce, the flavours were incredible, loved it.

Whether you’re a British expat craving a taste of home, a family looking for a relaxed and delicious weekend outing, or simply someone who appreciates a beautifully executed meal in a stunning setting, the Sunday Roast at Roots Bar & Kitchen is a must-try. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a wonderfully comforting and sophisticated way to end your week, leaving you feeling well-fed, relaxed, and utterly content.
