During this Year of Sustainability, W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island shows its commitment to go green with the launch of its new Crysp Vertical Garden
W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island is always looking for new ways to become more green by its partnership with Crysp. Introducing a new concept in Vertical Hydroponic Farming. This garden will allow getting the freshest and most nutritious ingredients for the guests.
Soon, W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island will grow its own herbs and vegetables just a foot away from where they will be cooked. On a continuous journey towards an environmental friendly future, this newest addition to the property is a great step to achieving the hotel’s green goals.
By drastically reducing the lag between harvest and consumption, not only are Crysp products superior in terms of flavour and nutrition, but also for zero spoilage purposes. While waste has an economic impact, it has a more serious impact on the environment, as the crop waste ends up in landfills where they emit methane gases, one of the key causes of global warming.
Aiming to show diners and guests ways to improve their footprint on a day-to-day basis, Crysp is helping our planet to heal by reducing the carbon footprint associated with the typical logistics involved in farm products.
One of the main advocates for the hotel installing this new Vertical Garden was the new Executive Chef of W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island, Deivid Paiva. The Executive Chef constantly tries to find new, innovative ways on how to minimize waste in all of his culinary sensations, and this talented chef believes one key element is by bringing the farm to the property. The farm has also ensured that no products are damaged in transit and that the crops are only harvested when they have reached their peak ripeness, giving guests dishes that are truly bursting with flavour.
Chef Deivid mentioned, “W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island works hard on minimizing waste in its day to day operations. This latest addition of the Vertical Garden to the hotel is another step in the right direction towards a greener future and reduce the carbon footprint in the process. By growing our own vegetables at the hotel, it not only allows us to have the freshest ingredients for our diners, but it also is a great way to be more environmentally friendly. Everyone at the hotel is proud to have partnered with Crsyp, and we look forward to this continued relationship to help us achieve the goals we have set for ourselves.”
The introduction of this Vertical Garden followed the great success of the 2023 Looped In Dinner, W Abu Dhabi’s annual dining event designed to spark a conversation about food-waste and showcasing guests innovative ways on how to use the full products while cooking. An experience not soon to be forgotten for all in attendance, and yet another display of W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island’s efforts to be more mindful of their impact on the environment. With plenty more still to come from Chef Deivid and the whole W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island team, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for the next exciting announcement.
