Stay active with these fab tips from CLYMB™ Abu Dhabi’s instructors.

With the holy month of Ramadan upon us, for those fasting staying active may be a challenge.

That said, staying in shape during the holy month of Ramadan is essential to keep your energy levels up throughout the day. Of course, it should be done the right way to avoid over-exertion during fasting.

CLYMB Abu Dhabi has put together tips and tricks on how to stay fit during Ramadan (and have fun doing it!)

Home to record-breaking experiences that offer guests new and unconventional ways of getting their heart rate pumping, guests can opt for indoor skydiving and climbing at the UAE’s ultimate adventure hub. These activities are a great way to challenge your fitness level and burn calories all while having a blast.

Take up a new active hobby and feel the burn

Defy gravity and let your body do the work inside the world’s biggest indoor skydiving chamber.

With the Flight Chamber at CLYMB Abu Dhabi, skydivers will experience a wonderful surge of adrenaline utilizing all the muscle groups in the body. Skydivers can burn up to 325calories for every 26 minutes spent in an indoor skydiving wind tunnel! Jogging for the same period burns just 200 calories in comparison.

Much like swimming and American football, skydiving is a form of resistance training and has many physical benefits including building muscle tone and increase flexibility and balance.

For those who prefer a more grounded approach to working up a sweat, climbing is a fantastic cardiovascular and resistance workout – burning anywhere between 500-900 calories per hour.  Research suggests indoor climbing can also build strength, power and bring aerobic and anaerobic fitness levels to new heights.

Climbers can expect to get a vigorous workout in the upper body, particularly in the forearms, when tackling CLYMB’s five unique climbing experiences. This exercise is associated with molding and building tenacity, much like long-distance running.

Every individual move is generally simpler, however once climbers start aiming for greater heights, their stamina and fortitude are put to the test. Climbers are simply not just chasing adrenaline they are building endurance.

Best time to work out

Once you’ve identified your best time to work out, excuses no longer hold power over you.

Have you considered working out pre-iftar?  Studies show that a fasted workout stimulates the body to use stored fat for energy which leads to calorie burn and reduction in body fat. The best time to work out while fasting is 90 minutes before sunset.

However, workouts done while fasting should be lighter than your usual workouts because your body is not able to replenish itself with water and is running on low energy. CLYMB Abu Dhabi’s instructors recommend taking short walks and light jogs – and don’t forget to do lots of stretching.

For those who prefer working out after iftar CLYMB Abu Dhabi recommends working out one hour after mealtime. Now that you have refueled for the day, this workout could focus on more intensive cardio workouts and heavy weightlifting.

Balanced meals are key

During the month of Ramadan, it is easy to be tempted by all the fancy iftar buffets and sweet desserts, but this is when you need to put your self-control to the test and not succumb to the temptation.

Along with staying active, it is essential to consume healthy balanced meals. This includes incorporating nutritious food into your meals such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and your preferred source of protein. This combination provides your body with long-lasting energy that will help make fasting easier for you.

It is also important to focus on hydration by making sure that you are taking in a sufficient amount of fluids. Not only does hydration give you energy, but it also controls your body temperature and aids digestion along with many more benefits.

Top tips for sky high success

  1. Rest is key: Try to get a good night’s sleep so you can smash your workouts; It is important to note that if you start feeling dizzy while working out, you need to immediately stop
  2. Hydrate: Water, water, water! It is essential to stay hydrated.  You can even spruce up your water with a few lemon slices, strawberries, or cucumbers for a delightful twist.
  3. Listen to your body: If you have not worked out in some time, allow yourself time to adapt to exercise. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.
