Shangri-La Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi will host the 6th annual Lantern and Moon Festival on 10 September with a collection of dining, spa, and gifting experiences.
Shangri-La invites those celebrating the Mid-Autumn festival to revel in the spirit of reunion whilst bringing together the deeply rich cultures of China and Vietnam. The tradition now in its 6th year will feature a collection of experiences from immersive set menus at signature restaurants Shang Palace and Hoi An to thoughtful gifting ideas in the shape of traditional moon cakes.
The Mid-Autumn festival is a traditional holiday celebrated in both Chinese and Vietnamese cultures and takes place on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar with a full moon at night. During this time friends and family gather and lanterns of varying sizes and shapes are lit as a beacon lighting the way for prosperity and good fortune. The celebration of both cultures will be apparent at the annual ‘lantern release’ where guests are invited to gather with loved ones as they take part in the evening festivities that start at 7.08 p.m.
Diners will savour an oriental twist on Shangri-La’s signature brunch at Sofra where they will be treated to authentic Chinese and Vietnamese delicacies, along with a range of international favourites, starting from AED298. The cuisine is set to be paired with live entertainment and activities to keep kids engaged, including a chocolate class and traditional lantern making, in the holiday theme.
Shang Palace will also host a special edition of the acclaimed Peking Social Brunch, treating guests to a voyage to the shores of China, feasting on a spread of Cantonese delicacies with prices starting from AED198 per person.
Culinary enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice as they opt for a choice between two showstopping 5-course dinner set menus at signature restaurants Shang Palace and Hội An starting from AED228. Those looking for an authentic Chinese experience need look no further than a hand-selected menu by Chef Qiguo Su, which features an assortment of signature dim sum, including a mouth-watering Truffle Lobster Dumpling with Sesame Caviar.
A salad of Kou Shui Ji (Poached Sichuan Chicken) is followed by a Chicken Wonton Soup, whilst highlights on the mains include Wok-fried Beef with Capsicum Peppers as well as the Deep-fried Shrimp with Crispy Chilli and Nuts. The meal is brought to a sweet end with a Rice Dumpling Ball paired with Chinese Red Dates in Sweet Ginger Soup and a traditional Mooncake.
Diners looking for Vietnamese cuisine will be satisfied with a delectable dinner menu that features sharing starters including Coconut Prawns, Spring Rolls, Chicken Satay and Beef wrapped in Betel Leaves followed by Banana Blossom Salad and Vietnamese Seafood Soup. The main course options feature Ginger Lotus Seabass, Grilled Beef Tenderloin, Oven Baked Seafood and more with a Chilled Mango Soup served as a dessert.
