Lewis Capalidi lights up Yasalam After Race Concerts at Etihad Park

Award-winning singer-songwriter wows adoring fans at packed Etihad Park with his unique style during #AbuDhabiGP weekend.

Award-winning singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi gave the UAE capital a new someone to love as he wowed a packed Etihad Park crowd at the 12th Yasalam After-Race Concerts on Saturday with his trademark ballads and stage showmanship, raising the emotion levels on Yas Island ahead of the eagerly anticipated season finale at the FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX 2021 on Sunday.

Taking to the stage with his energetic band, Capaldi immediately had a packed house in the palm of his hand before even the first note was sung, with chants of “Lewis, Lewis”. The likeable Scot showed his impressive vocal range and soulful singing voice from the get-go with epic opener ‘Grace’, which culminated in a ticker tape shower across Etihad Park.

“This is our first gig in two years, so thanks for coming out,” Capaldi told an adoring sellout crowd. “We are going to try and have some fun.” He continued his powerful opening salvo with ‘Forever’ and ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong.’

The huge Yas Island crowd of motor racing and music fans sang along throughout as the 25-year-old belted out songs from his debut album ‘Divinely Uninspired to A Hellish Extent’,

including ‘Don’t Get Me Wrong’, ‘One’ and ‘Headspace’. The Brit-Award winning star also kept them entertained by delivering banter in between songs, singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to a band member.

Capaldi ended on a high with the crowd signing along in a sea of phone lights and lung-bursting screams to epic ballads ‘Before You Go’ and ‘Someone You Loved’

Earlier in the evening, Capaldi’s Scottish compatriot Greg Pearson underlined the strength of the local music scene as he entertained the sell-out Etihad Park crowd with a warm-up set, before talented songstress Mougleta had her moment in the spotlight, performing her eclectic brand of pop. Both support acts are part of Flash Entertainment’s Regional Artist Spotlight (RAS) platform, which showcases the best in local talent and presents musicians from around the region with the opportunity to perform on the big stage.
